Learning to Sketch Again.

It's just like riding a bike...  If simply balancing on two wheels was the goal.

But sketching, and drawing well takes discipline, and time, and effort and patience. When you stop investing in the skills, they wither away.  Like an athlete who has gotten out of shape during the off-season, regaining the basic skills (or even desire) to draw is agonizing. Inaccurate and impatient.

But I will start... again.
And punch and scream at my dead limbs... uncross my eyes and rub my temples as I try to follow the contours.  And I will be patient and generous with myself.  I will go back to basics... doing exercises that I know work. Like a musician playing scales. You teach your eyes to see, and interpret and execute.

The tough part?  Turning the page in the sketchbook and doing another one.
The toughest part? Opening the sketchbook the first time.
